Richard Lyons
In CBT, EMDRCBT and EMDR Therapist
About me
I previously worked in the NHS for over sixteen years in a variety of roles. My career in the NHS began in 2002 as a Health Care Assistant and I then went on to train and qualify as a Mental Health Nurse in 2006. I subsequently worked on inpatient wards and then moved to a new role working as a nurse in the general community. I moved into a specialist role as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist in 2010.
I believe in taking a collaborative approach to psychological therapy; working with clients to identify their negative thought patterns, distressing feelings and unhelpful coping strategies and then together find ways of changing things for the better.
This will involve working with you to formulate and define your problems and then using evidence-based solutions to help you develop new strategies that will be helpful to you in the future.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is used to treat depression and a range of anxiety conditions. I have also done further specialist training in Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) which is a therapy that is used to help people who have experienced some form of psychological trauma following a critical life event.
CBT and EMDR are therapies that are proven to be effective in tackling difficulties such as:
- Depression
- Panic
- Agoraphobia
- Specific Phobias
- Generalised Anxiety
- Health Anxiety
- Social Anxiety
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- Sleep Problems
- Anger Management
- Low Self-Esteem
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Body Image Issues
- Work-Related Stress
